How connected is my classroom to the World?

The power of social media & my application of ‘The Kevin Bacon’ test….

Back in the 1980’s a cool game to kill a few hours was to play the Kevin Bacon game, whereby you linked yourself to another person, or linked two seemingly unconnected famous people together, usually one of the two people was Kevin Bacon.

In a similar fashion it seems through the use of social media we are all connected to everyone else on the planet, Facebook highlighted this in a recent experiment whereby they reflected that any given person is connected to any other random person through their social media platform by only 3.57 shared links.

With that in mind I have devised a homework task for my Year 7 & Year 8 Geography students around this blog to see how many countries it could be shared with and through this sharing I would be able to test Facebook’s premise!

I will be able to do this because Word-Press provide me with information on countries where the blog has been viewed.

The Task

As such students need to share this blog with members of their family/friends wherever they might be around the World & leave short comment at the bottom of the blog, something like ‘ Hello from Australia this is Brandon’s uncle visiting the blog’.

The Objective

To see how many countries my classroom is connected to.

Results should be back after February half term, So look out for the results & whilst you are waiting, play the game

Enjoy
